Acidic Drinks Can Damage Teeth
Drinking too many acidic drinks can lead to erosion of the tooth enamel over time. Recently a patient came into our office that we had not seen since Covid days. She noticed her teeth were getting smaller and darker over the last few months. Upon questioning her diet we realized that she had been drinking lemon water all day long for a while. Here is the photo of before and then after it had dissolved most of the enamel from her teeth. The pH of lemon water is probably around 3 to 4, meaning it is very acidic and will dissolve enamel quickly. Citric acid is the key ingredient that causes this issue. Once it is gone you cannot get the enamel back. Some type of restorative procedure will then be necessary to correct the damage. We have begun that process recently on this patient and we may share it soon.
